Each year at the Northern Region Tournament, we award one Team Manager or Volunteer with the Rachel Shankle Award to honor someone who has overcome hardship during their time with Destination Imagination.
If you know of a volunteer who you think is deserving of this award, please nominate that individual at the link below NO LATER than noon on Monday, February 20.
About the Award
The DI community in North Alabama lost a dear friend and supporter during the fall of 2005 in a tragic car accident. Rachel Shankle served as a longtime team manager and supporter of the DI program at Westminster Christian Academy. Rachel was also a school volunteer at WCA who served in countless other ways, especially endearing herself to students who faced some degree of difficulty with learning. Her spirit of determination and optimism was contagious and her generosity with her time, encouraging words, smiles, and hugs was of monumental proportions. Rachel’s daughters, Ruth and Hannah, continued as dedicated members of their respective DI teams and are following their mother’s footsteps as models of perseverance.
The Rachel Shankle Memorial Award was created to honor Rachel by recognizing those selfless volunteers who persevere through hard times, love creativity, and sacrifice their time for our team members.
We would like to post a listing of those who have received the Rachel Shankle Award. If you or someone you know has received this award in the past, please contact Robin via the button below with the name and year. Thank you!
